Recently, I was approached by the owners of HotKeyIt, the only Starcraft 2 guide which provides the expertise of over a dozen professional-level Starcraft 2 players in video format.

Needless to say, I was intrigued by the premise and was happy to put together this HotKeyIt review and get a chance to check out this guide.

HotKeyIt Review - The Verdict

Frankly, this guide is awesome and really fills the void in premium-level Starcraft 2 guides. Previously, there were a lot of products and websites (like this one) which are great for beginners who want to learn the basics of Starcraft 2, but there is no option for true enthusiasts who really want to take their game to the next level.

That is of course until now. HotKeyIt has 18 different professional-level contributors, giving them multiple experts that play each race and contribute videos and strategies from their own unique perspective. It is like getting coaching from 18 pro players.

Forum Support From Pro Players

The thing that really impressed me the most was the support and the member forums. If you are a member of HotKeyIt and a particular match is giving your problems, you can simply post your problem on the forums and a pro-level player will get back to you right away and even create a video for you showing you how to beat whatever match-up is giving you problems.

As an example of this, Protoss players posted that they were having trouble against Terran players using the 1-1-1 push (a common complaint from Protoss players), so one of the pros named Classic created a video detailing exactly how he counters this build.

The video itself was really impressive too. Not only did he explain to you what he does, but he shows multiple videos of him stopping the build and explaining each step he takes in real time over the replay. Additionally, he goes beyond the call of duty by not only showing you how to counter the build, but what to look for in the Terran player's base to scout for it to see when it is coming.

All of the videos are like this, and there are over 50 videos in their library. They even add 3-4 a week based on requests as mentioned, so if you are having a problem and do not see a video for it, just request it and they make one right away. It is really a neat system and it is good to see so much support.

Never Turn to Other Forums Again

This of course is in stark contrast to many other popular Starcraft 2 forums. Whenever you post about a problem you are having in-game, half the replies are insults along the lines of "l2p noob" or "try macroing harder idiot", whereas the other half of the thread degenerates into people whining about what is imbalanced in the game.

With HotKeyIt, the next time you post on the Blizzard forums you just might be the one with the master's league tag instead of the person getting called out for not being a good player whenever you try to make a post!

Cons of HotKeyIt

The only downside to HotKeyIt is its relative price. At $27 a month, it is the most expensive Starcraft 2 guide on the market today.

However, when you think about it, the price is really a bargain. Starcraft 2 pros typically charge anywhere from $30 to $150 an hour for coaching, and with HotKeyIt you are getting access to 12-15 new videos a month of professional level coaching.

Considering most of the videos I checked out were 30 minutes in length, you are really getting pro-level coaching at a fraction of the price. Add on the fact that you can talk to the pros and other fellow members on the forums and the price is actually surprisingly good.

Obviously, the guide is not for everyone. If you are a casual player who only gets in a game or two per week, this is not really your product. However, if you are a big Starcraft 2 fan who is serious about getting better, then this is definitely the only product in its class.

I also think it is a no-brainer for any eSports fan, as being able to watch tons of replays from pro-level players and understanding their thought process is not only invaluable in improving your game, it is also quite entertaining.

HotKeyIt Review - The Bottom Line

To put it simply, HotKeyIt is the only product on the market I have reviewed that contains effective strategies that will work even in the Master's league.

This guide is simply a must-have for any eSports fan and I strongly recommend it to any Starcraft 2 player who wants to increase their rank and ultimately get into the Master's League.
